A project consultation workshop was organized by the Ministry of Environment with technical support from FAO. The workshop was held on 12 June 2013 at Angkor Paradise Hotel, in Siem Reap Town. Approximately 50 participants, from different government institutions, such as the ministry of environment, the ministry of water resources and meteorology, the ministry of women’s affairs, forestry department participated in the workshop.
The purpose of the workshop was to present the GEF project and to gather constructive feedback or comment to improve full project document. H.E. Thuk Kreun Vutha, secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment presided over the workshop. He gave opening speech by telling climate change impact on Cambodia. Dr. Tin Ponlok, deputy director general of the ministry of environment moderated the technical session of the workshop.
Four staff, including 2 staff from regional office, climate change officer and Mr. Yim Sok Sophors, smallholder agriculture specialist, presented project’s outcomes to the participants. Sophors mainly focused on the smallholder agriculture development through the implementation of farmer field school approaches.
As a result, the government officials, community members, and other relevant stakeholders have gained more understanding of the project, and they actively contributed their knowledge and experience to improve the full project document. Remarkably, the district governor of Varin strongly supported to implement the project in his district. The participants mentioned that the implementation of this project will enable the government officials at all levels improve their technical capacity in implementing the climate change adaptation.
