On 13 March 2013, Mr. Yim Soksophors, smallholder agricultural specialist of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) participated in a project launching workshop at Hotel Cambodianna. The workshop was organized by the ministry of women’s affairs in the purpose of introducing new funding project from the Cambodian Climate Change Alliance (CCCA), called “Climate Change Project for Improving Livelihood of Rural Women”. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) in 6 communes of two provinces, Stung Treng and Oddar Meanchey Provinces for the duration of 15 months from January 2013, with the total budget of USD 300,000. The main objective of the project is to improve the livelihood and adaptive capacity of rural women in Stung Treng and Oddar Meanchey Provinces through capacity building and better access to climate information on the natural disaster, market information.
The project will provide capacity building to the target groups on climate change concepts, construct / rehabilitate small scale irrigation structures, as well as mainstreaming climate change adaptation activities into the local development plans. More importantly, the project is promoting the gender roles adapt to climate change.
Representatives of the Provincial Department of Women’s Affairs from the project target provinces also participated in the workshop, so they got more understanding of the project concept, objectives, expected results, strategies and key activities, etc. In total, approximately 50 participants joined the workshop.
