Ho Chi Minh: From 21-22 July 2011, Mr. Yim Sok Sophors Program officer of CEDAC Field Program participated in the first meeting of Climate Change Adaptation Demonstration Projects in the Lower Mekong Basin sharing lessons and experience, Lotus Ballroom, Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. The meeting was organized by MRC (Mekong River Commission).

Main objectives:

1). To provide an opportunity for the practitioners to share practices, tools, experiences, lessons learned and challenges as well as to exchange knowledge on planning and implementing adaptation activities to climate change within the Lower Mekong Region; and

2). To provide networking opportunities that facilitate further cooperation, replication and up scaling of climate change adaptation activities.

Approximately 120 participants from the Lower Mekong Countries (Cambodia, Viet Nam and Laos-PDR) participated in the meeting. The participants comprised of public sector, private sector and civil society. During the meeting, 26 presentations were presented including Keynote presentation, good practices (impact and vulnerability assessment for climate change adaptation, and identification and selection of adaptation options), enhancing adaptive capacity, participation and gender mainstreaming in climate change adaptation. In addition, there were 2 panel discussions on How to overcome the challenges and build capacity for local adaptation actions and Replication and up-scaling of good practices in the lower Mekong Basin.

Mr. Yim Sok Sophors presented a Key note “Integrated commercial farm for small farmers in Samrong district, Takeo Province (ICM)” and also was a panelist members to discuss “Replication and Up-Scaling of Local Adaption in the Lower Mekong Basin”.
