Field Mission to PCR-KCP Kampong Chhnang

From 07-08 March 2011, Mr. Yim Sok Sophors Program Officer was conducting a support mission to the project Promoting Climate Resilient Livelihood for Small Scale Farmers in Samaky Meanchey district, Kampong Chhang Province / PCR-KCP. This project is funded by ForumSyd within a period of 15 month starting from 01 February 2011 and ended in 30 April 2012.The project’s goal is to contribute to the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger among small-scale farmer families in dry land areas, enhancing their resilience against climate change, drought, and soil degradation. The mission not only aimed to strengthen the staff’s understanding of the project concept, goal, objectives, key project’s deliverable, activities, budget and activity, but also to sum-up the progress of the project in the last month as well as preparing action plan for March 2011.

In addition, we have also discussed some key concepts of climate change such as adaptation, mitigation, resilience, drought resilient agricultural technique etc. A field visit was also conducted to Thlork Vien Commune to interview with a few farmers about their family situation, farming practices as well as to find out possibility of farming activities in the dry season. A women who is a management committee members of village based farmer association mentioned that more than 50% of the total families in her village prepare small vegetable garden within the homestead in the dry season. They use water from the pumping well. She also added that she is interested to develop demonstration sites that would be useful for herself and the other farmers to learn from her.

As a result, the project staff have gained more understanding about the project. They are clear about project’s objectives, expected outputs. The activity plan, budget plan and milestone to achieve the project’s outputs in specific time were discussed and prepared. In conclusion, the missions was conducted successfully and all project’s relevant people are clear about the project and know what they need to do to achieve the project’s objectives.
